I had to laugh when my two year old Joel saw me looking through my box of essential oils. He immediately said “My Peet”, climbed on my bed and stuck his little feet out for me. Yes, “Peet” would be feet in the language of Joel! The funny thing is that I haven’t even used the oils on Joel very much yet but he remembered when I had and seemed to like it. In fact, all of my kids think that it is a treat to have me rub the oils on their feet whether it is Lavender to help them sleep better, Onguard to help protect them from illness or something else. My sister-in-law has had the same experience with her children. Her one year old will lay down and put up her feet when she sees the oils. I thought it was funny until I really stopped to smell the Eucalyptus Essential Oil. I was instantly reminded of how my mom would rub Vicks Vapor Rub on my chest and then cover it with a warm cloth when I had a cold as a child. I remember how much better I felt when she did that and just as important I felt so loved and cared for. I have to say that because of this I have always loved the smell of Vicks Vapor Rub and I love the smell of the Eucalyptus Essential Oil. Interestingly enough, I have never done anything like that for my kids. If they have a cold I have just given them some kind of cold medicine and said to go to bed. Recently, doctors are saying not to give young children cold medicine so sometimes I have just said sorry you don’t feel well and put them to bed! I’m so grateful to have some new tools at my disposal now that I am learning more about essential oils. For my older children, I will use the Eucalyptus Oil diluted with the carrier oil Fractionated Coconut Oil and spread it on their chest and cover it with a warm cloth just as my mom used to do with Vick for me. For my Younger Children and Babies I can put the Eucalyptus Oil in the diffuser or put a few drops in a warm bath. I hope I will learn more ways to bring comfort and be more nurturing to my children as I learn more about the doTerra Essential Oils.
